Crystal Palace Announces Roy Hodgson as New Manager until the End of the Season
Crystal Palace Football Club has announced the signing of Roy Hodgson as its new manager until the end of the season. The former England boss is making a return for a second spell in charge at Selhurst Park, having previously managed the Eagles between September 2017 and May 2021.
Hodgson replaces Patrick Vieira, who was sacked on March 17 after less than two years in charge. The club’s U21s head coach Paddy McCarthy oversaw Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, supported by assistant Darren Powell and goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely.
Crystal Palace’s recent poor form, with 13 matches across all competitions without a win and just six goals scored, has left them three points clear of the relegation zone with 10 games to go.
The team will regroup after the March international break with their next six fixtures against teams below them in the table. These include Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, Everton, Wolves, and West Ham.
Former Crystal Palace striker, Clinton Morrison believes that Patrick Vieira’s dismissal was a wrong decision as he brought togetherness to the squad despite the team’s poor form. Morrison suggests that the run of games that the team has had is ridiculous, and the issue is their inability to score goals. The team is too reliant on Wilfried Zaha, who has been injured for a bit recently. Other players need to step up, and there are two players in Ebere Eze and Michael Olise who he thinks will go to the very top.
Besides these woes, Crystal Palace has held onto 12th place ever since the turn of the year. With Hodgson’s arrival, the team hopes to get back on track and firm up their position in the league.
Hodgson is no stranger to the Premier League and has a wealth of experience in football management. The 75-year-old joins Crystal Palace despite stating last May during his short spell in charge of Watford that he wouldn’t be putting his name forward anymore for further stories in the world of Premier League football.
