Huntsville Utilities Says Power Mostly Restored After Outage

MADISON COUNTY, Ala (WHNT) — Huntsville Utilities announced that power has been restored to most customers after a significant outage. The outage affected Northern Madison County and Northwest Huntsville.

Initially, the electric operations crews responded to an outage that impacted a wide area. This area stretched from the Tennessee State Line to Highway 20 and from Wall Triana Highway to Highway 231/431.

As of 11:03 p.m. on Tuesday, power had been restored to all but 5,600 customers. These remaining customers are in the area from the Tennessee State Line to Sparkman Drive and from Jeff Road to Memorial Parkway.

Cause of the Outage

  • According to Huntsville Utilities, the outage was caused by an animal.
  • The animal entered a primary substation that distributes power to other substations.
  • Contact with electrical equipment caused the main feeder breaker to open.
