Firefighters Tackle Blaze in Nottinghamshire
Over 100 firefighters from 16 different crews have been battling a fire in Nottinghamshire that broke out on Friday evening. The fire led to Nottingham Road, Forest Road and Sandhurst Avenue being closed while several properties in the area were evacuated.
According to police sources, there were no reports of any injuries, but neighbouring streets were cleared as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the Oak Tree Leisure Centre, in Jubilee Way South, was made available to provide temporary shelter for those affected by the fire.
It is not yet known how the fire began, nor how much damage has been caused, but a police spokesperson said that the incident was likely to be ongoing for some time, so people should avoid the area if possible.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire around 5 pm on Friday evening and have been on the scene since then. The incident has disrupted traffic to the area, with road closures and bus diversions in place.
The local authorities have been advising residents to stay away from the area while the operation is ongoing. They also asked anyone who was affected by the fire to seek temporary shelter in Jubilee Way South.
Chief Inspector Amy Styles-Jones from Nottinghamshire Police said: “We are grateful to all members of the public who have heeded our advice and stayed away from the area.”
She added: “While we don’t yet know the cause or the extent of the damage caused by this fire, our crews are working tirelessly to ensure that it is under control and that further damage is prevented.”
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have praised the swift and professional response of their teams, and have thanked members of the public for their cooperation and understanding during this difficult time.
This incident highlights the importance of emergency services in ensuring public safety in the event of fires and other disasters. Local authorities are urging residents to take extra precautions and follow safety guidance to prevent fires in the future, especially during the hot summer months.
