Scientists have discovered new genetic evidence supporting the theory that the COVID-19 virus originated from an animal source. This evidence was found in genetic sequences of the virus that were uploaded to a public genomic database and subsequently taken down, but not before several researchers had downloaded and analyzed them. Samples collected from the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market contained genetic material from raccoon dogs and other animals, suggesting that they may have been the first to spread the virus to humans. The evidence does not directly prove that SARS-CoV-2 came from the infected raccoon dogs, but it adds to a growing body of evidence in favor of a spillover from animals. The new findings may help convince more reasonable scientists that the lab-leak conspiracy theory is unlikely. Regardless of the true origin of the virus, it is important to maintain biosecurity measures to prevent possible leaks of deadly pathogens.#Evidence #Supports #Animal #Origin #COVID #Virus #Raccoon #Dogs
