UST Tigresses Dominate UAAP Season 85 Women’s Volleyball Tournament First Round

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses proved their mettle in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament as they concluded the first round schedule at the top of their game. Despite being ambushed by the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors in the first set, the Tigresses managed to overcome the challenge, cruising to a 30-32, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14 victory at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.

UST star Eya Laure emphasized the need to work on the team’s intensity on the court, with their coaches consistently reminding them to overachieve by always aiming to do better. Laure’s power smash, through the blocking Riza Nogales, capped a 14-attack performance, while rookie Regina Jurado accounted for 13 points, including 10 attacks.

The Tigresses went into the second round with a 5-2 record and a plan to improve on their game more. UST coach Kungfu Reyes said that their first-round high note was a big morale booster for the team, adding that they would use it as additional motivation to surpass their initial accomplishments.

Meanwhile, the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, defending champions of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, believe they have some improvements to make before a crucial, and familiar, showdown against the currently undefeated leader, La Salle. NU’s 25-21, 25-9, 25-18 victory over Far Eastern University (FEU) on Saturday pushed their record to 5-1, positioning them for a titanic face-off against La Salle (5-0) on Wednesday.

The NU-La Salle match is a rematch of last season’s title series, which the Lady Bulldogs dominated. This year’s Lady Spikers feature a rising star in Angel Canino, who powered La Salle-Zobel’s squad to end a four-year high school reign of Bella Belen, Toring, and the Nazareth School of National University in 2018.

NU coach Karl Dimaculangan said that they would go back to the drawing board and review their opponents before making a game plan for their upcoming match. Despite the challenge, however, NU players Alyssa Solomon and Princess Robles continue to deliver impressive performances, leading the team to a dominant win over FEU.

In conclusion, both UST and NU teams have displayed remarkable skill and tenacity in the first round of the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament. As they head into the second round, they will need to stay focused and improve on their game to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.#Slow #starts #problem #UST #wraps #withastreak
