NLEX Road Warriors suffered a tough loss in the quarterfinals of the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday against Barangay Ginebra. NLEX’s Wayne Selden Jr., the replacement for original import Jonathon Simmons, was unable to play due to a sprained foot. Selden expressed regret that he couldn’t compete and thought that he wouldn’t be effective in the game. NLEX played all-Filipino and Ginebra turned the playoff contest into a rout.
NLEX coach, Frankie Lim, was disappointed with the result as he was preparing to face Ginebra with Selden on the floor. While Selden proved to be an equally good replacement for Simmons with his 31.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 2.4 steals averages in seven appearances, Road Warriors went 3-4 during the latter part of the eliminations before the Gin Kings ended their season.
Selden said that he really enjoyed his time with the team and wished he could have given the team a chance to win.
In conclusion, the Road Warriors’ failure to advance to the next round of the tournament was attributed to Selden’s absence from the game. The team faced tough competition with all-Filipino and, ultimately, Ginebra’s play was the difference-maker. The management, coaches, and players are evaluating their performance and are committed to coming back stronger in the next tournament.#PBA #Wayne #Selden #rues #foot #injury #NLEX #suffers #quarterfinal #exit
